It's On

Everyone talks about what a style icon Alexa Chung is, but they forget to mention that she's also incredibly funny. I've been watching interviews from "Its on with Alexa Chung" and she's just so much cooler than anyone she interviews on the show. And possibly the coolest daytime TV host EVER.

I'm not sure what show this is for, but here are some videos of her interviewing Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Jean Paul Gaultier. All three of the designers remind me of my grandpa. The funniest part is when Roberto Cavalli admits he doesn't like Alexa's dress.

The Simple Life

Our televisions see enough shows about rich, over-privileged teenagers with ridiculous problems. They always seem to have high ratings; we love to hate them and we gobble them up. Beverly Hill 90210, its remake, the OC, the CW's aptly titled and now defunct Priviledged, Mtv's Sweet Sixteen, Bravo's new reality show ?NYC Prep and the much loved Gossip Girl.

I think the main reason I tune into shows like Gossip Girl, is, well, obviously the fashion, because most of the time the plot itself is sorely lacking. Seriously, Serena killed someone? Harriet the spy actually goes around and pretends to be someone else so convincingly, just to get back at Serena for not wanting to be her friend? I think Serena is so boring anyway; Blaire is definitely my favorite. But overall, I think the show gets too much hype for being 'controversial' when compared to other shows today (uh, like the almost porno Rock of Love) it is incredibly tame.

Well, I just wanted to call attention to a animated TV show that was on the air back in '88, ran for one season, and was meant for seven year olds. Beverly Hills Teens must have been the precursor to Beverly Hills 90210, but for the wrong age group. The show was about, what else, a group of over-privileged teenagers with crazy futuristic gadgets that still haven't come about yet and amazing, crazy 80s cartoon fashion.

Not only that, it has definite paralells with Gossip Girl. You've got your perfect blonde Larke who is also kind of boring like Serena; the bitchy, raven haired Bianca who goes into jealous fits like Blaire. There's even a douchey hot shot that dresses similar to Chuck, a hunky nice guy like Nate, and a nerdy little red head that i guess could be Dan Humphrey.

You can watch full episodes of Beverly Hills Teens on kewlcartoons.com, which i recommend doing because the animation is total eye candy. Below is the intro and some screen shots for you to enjoy:

Most Wanted

A male friend of mine asked me what he should look for on ebay ('cuz he was looking to splurge a new paycheck), and I told him what I look for usually is clothes, shoes, and art. A couple of web browsing hours later, he showed me a vintage western shirt and I immediately fell in love with the embroidered arrows on the openings of the shirt pockets. I imagine its a pretty common design motif for western wear, since there are several of them on ebay and I even spotted an old man wearing a similar shirt with the same style pockets in an episode of Malcolm in the Middle.

I think they're incredibly swanky, and it reminds me of the leotard from the Topshop Unique Spring Collection. The picture below features Lilly Allen sporting the leotard in an issue of Bust Magazine.

Ofcourse that leotard isn't available anymore, but Modcloth has two items that are simple but share the same spirit : the hit the mark tee and my aim is true necklace.

What also comes to mind is this dress that Cat Party posted on back in March.

Girls

some beautiful and moody paintings from etsy seller pepperminte.

Here's to Ebay

Wish I could win a million dollars and go on an ebay shopping spree. Where else can you find cool vintage oxfords that are specifically to your liking (without having to wait until you luck out in a thrift store?) . Like these silver cage shoes, for example.
Also, other things you should bid on: ;)

I love this puff sleeved bodysuit, but the bidding will end soon.
Check it out here.

And this floral bustier crop top is amazing. I expect an all out bidding war to happen for this one.

I found most of the runway collections for fall 2009 slightly boring, as well as the street style photos accompanying them, because it seems like most fashion people resorted to all black ensembles and dark color palettes. But one collection I was thoroughly impressed with was Missoni. Light blues and dusty pinks have been hitting the spot for me lately, and I can't wait to emulate the styling of these pieces by layering heavy coats over heavy sweaters over numerous scarves over short skirts over leggings.

Most of all, I love the circle scarves which I've been spotting in stores like american apparel and Modcloth. Hopefully, I'll have the means of purchasing these come fall, but meanwhile i'll be revisiting and fawning over the entire missoni fall collection again and again.

Can't wait for the upcoming fashion week.
